Photo Albums in DREAMWEAVER

A picture album can add a nice touch to a personal webpage and a fun side to a commerce oriented site. Dreamweaver makes it easy to import the pictures you wish to use, thumbnail them to save space, and display them on your page. Macromedia makes a product called Fireworks that automates the image shaping and thumbnailing process. The technique is simple and the potential endless.
Importing the Images:
For the purpose of simplicity, it helps to have all of the pictures for you web album in the same folder. You can then select this folder for Dreamweaver to pull the images from and code for your website. Follow these steps:
1. Click on Commands at the top menu of the Dreamweaver screen and select Create Web Photo Album from the pulldown menu.

2. Name the Photo Album and select the Source Images Folder. You can browse to find the folder you've created.

3. Identify the requirements for the album (thumbnail size, thumbnail format, photo format, and scale). The default settings are 100 x 100 thumbnail size, 5 columns, and JPEG format for both thumbnails and photos.
Creating the Photo Album
The nice thing about Dreamweaver is that it automatically initiates the Fireworks software to create and format your web album. Once you have entered the desired information into the dialogue box described above, click OK and Dreamweaver will thumbnail your pictures and arrange them on your destination page. The process results in several new items:
A. 3 new folders inside the destination folder: thumbnails, images, and pages.
B. An index.htm page
You can now link any page in your site to the index.htm page. Your web album is now ready for editing!
