| The Republic of Serbia is the largest of the nations remaining
from the former Yugoslav federation. Serbia has no coastline, but it
has two historic lighthouses located on the Dunav (Danube) River. Thanks
to Michel Forand for drawing my attention to the recent restoration of
these lighthouses.
ARLHS numbers are from the ARLHS
World List of Lights.
- Lighthouses
- * Reke Tamiš Zapad (Tamiš River West)
- 1909. Inactive(?). 6 m (20 ft) round brick tower with lantern, mounted
on a broadly conical stone base. A closeup photo
is available, also a view
of both lighthouses, Klaus Huelse has a historic postcard
view of the two lighthouses, and Google has a satellite
view. The lighthouses were restored
in time for their centennial in 2009. Another closeup
shows a small lens in the lantern, so it is possible that a decorative
light is displayed. Located on the west side of the mouth of the Tamiš
River near Pančevo, about 15 km east of Belgrade. Site open, tower closed.
ARLHS SER-002.
- * Reke Tamiš Istok (Tamiš River East)
- 1909. Inactive(?). 6 m (20 ft) round brick tower with lantern, mounted
on a broadly conical stone base. Zdenko Kanački's photo is at right,
there's a view
of both lighthouses, Klaus Huelse has a historic postcard
view of the two lighthouses, and Google has a satellite
view. Located on the east side of the mouth of the Tamiš River.
Site open, tower closed. ARLHS SER-001.
