Tampico Light

This historic photo of the Tampico Light was taken sometime between its constuction, in 1865, and 1897. It was taken by William Henry Jackson for the Detroit Publishing Company, and a copy was donated to the Library of Congress by the State Historical Society of Colorado.

The lighthouse is similar to many cast iron skeletal towers constructed in the U.S., but it is believed to be the only one of its kind in Mexico. It was prefabricated in Pittsburgh and shipped in sections to Tampico for assembly.
