This skeletal tower is typical of modern navigation beacons. Built about 1958, it replaced an older skeletal tower which was tended from 1891 to 1924 by keepers housed at the Scituate Light keeper's quarters, making it a legitimate part of the historic light station. Standing at the southeastern corner of Massachusetts Bay with nothing but open ocean in front of it, the relatively modest tower is listed as a major seacoast light.
