According to the New Jersey Lighthouse Society's page on this light station, the lighthouse was built in 1885. Originally it was a 1-story structure with a square cylindrical light tower centered on the roof, as shown in the photo posted by the Coast Guard Chief Historian's Office. Deactivated and stripped of its light tower in 1923, the lighthouse was relocated as a private residence. In the 1940's the lighthouse was relocated a second time to 3414 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City. This photo, taken by John Kulpa on December 12, 2000, shows that the building had been expanded considerably. The Friends of Ludlum Beach Lighthouse worked to save the building by relocating it a third time for use as a museum. Sadly, these efforts failed, and the building was demolished in September 2010.
