Thanks to Capt. Peter Mosselberger for these photos of two lights on the Mississippi River in New Orleans. The two lights are at opposite ends of the Algiers Bend, a right-angle bend of the river just below the French Quarter. The Governor Nicholls Light is on the downstream end of the bend close to the French Quarter, and the Gretna Light is on the upstream end in Gretna, opposite New Orleans. Both light stations include traffic control rooms where Coast Guard staff can monitor and direct ship traffic around the dangerous bend.
