Thanks to Kebby Kelley, Environmental Protection Specialist in the Coast Guard's Environmental Management Division, Office of Civil Engineering, for supplying this photo of the Cape Hinchinbrook lighthouse on the south coast of Alaska. This is one of the most remote of all U.S. lighthouses.
Built in 1934, this lighthouse has been automated since 1974. A modern solar-powered VRB-25 Vega lens is in use; the original third-order Fresnel lens is on display at the Valdez Heritage Center in Valdez.
