search engine optimization

After selling on Ebay for many years, I got tired of the fees and the rules and the nitpicking of working for someone else, and decided to start my own website. It seemed easy enough, I found a company that offered me to choose a domain name and design a website all for a nominal fee per month. So I worked really hard laying out the design and choosing a name that was appropriate. After all had been laid out, I decided to put my merchandise up on my site with a link to the Ebay account that I was still using. I thought that people would just flock right in. Well, they didn't I got a few looks from the customers that I had already established a relationship with on Ebay, but it seemed like no one else could find me. So after a week or so, I did a search on my merchandise and my business name, and to my surprise, I couldn't find myself either. Well, I guess I really just wasn't thinking about how many businesses and websites exist on this computer from all over the world. So now what I had to do was figure out just how I was going to sell my merchandise without any customers. That would be nearly impossible. I knew what I needed, but I really had no idea where to turn. I looked up online information about starting my own website and came up with some answers. They talked about SEO and PPC, which were foreign terms to me at the time, but I have since learned a bit more. What I was in need of was a search engine optimization company, who could get my website onto the main search engines and ranked higher and higher. Companies like this actually incorporate keywords that you choose into other web pages and somehow the more time a search engine picks up the key word the higher ranked you become. Well, let me tell you, I still don't claim to be an expert, but I do know that this service does really work. It cost me a little extra, but now I can finally search my own site, and that means that so can other people. More customers = more business.
