UNEMPLOYMENT HAS MY HUBBY THINKING ABOUT TRUCKING SCHOOL
My husband has recently become unemployed, one of the casualties of the times. I know that he would be able to find work, if there were any work available, but if you check the local paper, there are literally no jobs available. They just are no where to be found. Well, while we were at a local convenience store we bumped into a friend of ours and got to talking about how Tom had been layed off and was looking for work. George is a trucker and suggested that he could teach my husband to drive a truck. He said that it could be an alternative to him going to trucking school, since that can get pricey. He said that once he learns what he is doing on his truck then he can study and take the test to get his CDL License. He did tell my husband if he wanted to go to trucking school that many schools offer financial aide and he told us about the Florida Trucking School that he attended.
George is a really nice guy and I really thought it would be a good opportunity for my husband, but as George warned him, especially during the first few years, they will want you to do the long distance hauling and he said it can be rough being away from your family this much. He said he personally enjoys doing the type of short hauls that he is doing now. He has to work overnight, but he gets to be home everyday with his family and that is what he likes best. I think this scared Tom, because he hates to be away from home. But I think that after a little more time passes with no hope of employment in sight, he will go for it. Sitting around isn't serving him. Some people can just hang out on the couch and be but not Tom, he needs to keep going otherwise he thinks too much and drives himself crazy. Besides any job is better than none at all, and the free training makes it even more enticing.
