The
Public Relations Plan:
In my Introduction
to Public Relations class, JOMC 130, a group of four students
and I created a public relations plan for The Cornucopia House,
a cancer center in the Durham area. The plan was designed to
help Cornucopia House raise awareness among oncologists and
patients. We designed this plan with only a $600 budget.

The Public Relations
Presentation:
In JOMC 130, my public relations
group designed and presented a power point presentation on April
29, 2002. The presentation highlighted the main goals of our
public relations plan for Cornucopia House. The plan identified
our audiences and explained how we would implement this plan
if we were Public Relations practitioners.

The First Newswriting Sample
In my newswriting
class, JOMC 53, we were given the assignment to cover Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech as if we
were listening to the speech in Washington D.C. for the first
time. Thus, this sample demonstrates my ability to write for
a particular audience. Also, since he delivered his speech in
1964, the Civil Rights Movement was just gaining momentum. I
had to write as if I was a reporter during the 1960s, and immerse
myself into the tumultuous atmosphere in Washington D.C. during
that time.

The Second Newswriting
Sample
On June 12, 2002,
my JOMC 53 class felt liberated from the confines of the classroom.
We wrote our daily assignment surrounded by walls of contemporary
artwork. We were assigned to explore, research and visit the
Ackland Art museum on Columbia St. in Chapel Hill and report
on its new exhibit "Eye in the Sky, Vsions of Contemporary
Art from the Ackland Collection." I found Bruce Wall's
"Metrofreako#32," the most fascinating. With his splashes
of vibrant color on canvas, Wall brilliantly captured the climate
of The East Village in New York during the 1980s.
