Dear «name1»,
This letter is to introduce you to one of my advisees, Ms. Janet Smart a junior in the Undergraduate Program of the Department of Health Policy and Administration. We would like to open a discussion with you regarding the possibility of a twelve-week internship for Janet at «organization».
Field Training is a very important component of both our undergraduate an graduate programs. The experience is carefully planned and implemented. With support from our External Activities Office, we are placing over 100 students into local, state, national, and international administrative and policy-related settings. Summer internships typically begin around May 15th and end around August 15th.
Janet is a hard-working student, whose instructors have noted her sensitivity to complex issues, sense of the "big picture," maturity and articulateness, high motivation, dependability, remarkable ability to work well with others, and leadership skills – in sum, she is a "real gem." By next summer, Janet will have completed core course work in accounting principles, computers, management of human resources, and health care financial management, as well as biostatistics, epidemiology, and an introduction to the U.S. health services system.
Janet is a delightful young woman who is a quick study and will contribute to your organization as well as learn from it. I would be most grateful if she could be considered for an internship at «organization» for the summer of 1995. She could arrange to come to for an interview during spring recess in March, if that would be desirable, or she would be pleased to discuss the internship with you over the phone. I would appreciate it if you –or the person at «organization» who handles student placements—would get in touch with me in the next week or so to let me know if we can explore this request further. I may be reached at (919) 966-3745.
Sincerely,
Lara Quarels, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
