The Matrix was a fascinating film that depicted current and/or future life of our culture as though it were controlled entirely by artificial intelligence. This movie is set so that it appears to be about a normal person’s life in modern day, however upon further observation, the viewer is shown that, in fact, what the normal people in this world think is reality is not so at all.

History within the movie: Humans create artificial intelligence. Humans go to war against artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence wins. Humans are enslaved for their body heat and their minds are controlled by computers so that they think they are living present day lives (within the matrix—the computer generated reality), when however, that are living in artificial wombs underground, generating heat for the energy supplies of the artificial intelligence that is now ruling the planet.

This movie is about a group of humans who are able to break free from this slavery and roam about into and out of the matrix in order to free more humans to join the rebellion. The hero, Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, plays a sort of messiah role in this movie, in that he is the key to breaking free from the matrix. Neo and his group come into conflict with "agents" when they go on missions into the matrix. Agents are artificially intelligent individuals who are able to possess any body within the matrix in order to better fight the renegade humans.

The most interesting aspects of this movie were the concepts and the special effects. The concepts were fascinating because of their creativity and near-plausibility. They certainly cause one to worry about the role of artificial intelligence in the future. The special affects of this movie were amazing as well (not to mention very computer generated).

I would recommend this movie to anyone – the plot is fascinating, the effects are magnificent, there is something for everyone in this movie.
