About This Site
This site was initially developed as a way to help members of the department (especially our residents) keep up with the literature. In order to minimize adding to time demands and maximize the quality of studies summarized, I wanted to add no more than one article every 2-3 months from each subspecialty area. This would be summarized (and critiqued?) by a faculty member, to be readily available to site surfers. Eventually, this would develop into a nice collection of interesting and important articles.

Well, the site has grown a bit. It now also includes other material, as follows:

• Anesthesia by Subject - Most of the educational content on this site is here, sorted by subject (subspecialty). These include Articles (summaries, as described above), Basics (basic anesthesia information everyone should know), and UNC Way (tidbits of UNC pecularities, intended to be useful to anyone new to UNC). If something (e.g., articles) fit in more than one area, there will be links to it in both. Anything not fitting this organizational scheme will be found under the "Miscellany" link.
• Barash - in 1999/2000 our residents summarized several chapters from Clinical Anesthesia (Barash). I have placed whatever I have in the Archives section, but this links to one chapter, changed every month or so.
• Links - links to other educational sites I've happened to come across. Buried a bit (i.e., need to follow a few links) so that they don't automatically get loaded onto Palms with link depth set to 2 (AvantGo).
• Downloads - GO, PALM! While AvantGo will work with many Windows CE devices, I have a Palm. This area will have files or links I've found useful, mostly for PDA's running under Palm OS.
• UNC - password protected area for UNC Department of Anesthesia. Includes availablity lists, and abbreviated versions of our memos. Other things will be added as needed. Please note that the search engine does NOT index this area.
• Archives - will have archives of all journal articles summarized, sorted by specialty. Also, link to all the Barash chapter summaries I have, as well as old calendars. The data will be 3 links away from the Home Page, in order to keep the AvantGo file size down to a minimum (don't change the Link Depth to 3 or more unless you have a LOT of free memory).

Sending Content
I would very much appreciate anything you think may be helpful for site surfers. Article summaries (format below) would be most helpful, but any brief summaries on important anesthesia topics ("Basics") would also be good. Also, any residents out there are more than welcome to summarize the rest of Barash for me (send as text file or Word document)!

Please use the format below, using the appropriate labels. Everything between '<' and '>' should filled with data as indicated - don't include the '<' or '>'. It will help residents learn how to read articles if you can be critical!
