A Question Was Asked, And I Responded... |
If you could start a new professional
sports business, what would it be, and why? |
| The smell of freshly cut grass on opening day; the crushing
sound of a helmet-to-helmet hit; the bone-pounding crash into the boards;
the amazing forehand winner down the line; the joy after hitting the game
winning three pointer. How can these moments be forgotten or replaced?
They cannot. Since these moments are irreplaceable, why begin a new professional
sports business? Every sport possesses unique characteristics that make
that sport stand out. Why begin a sport that employs elements of using a tennis racket to hit a baseball? A profitable reason would be increased revenue for the entrepreneur. But, beginning a new professional sports business would hamper the current sports environment. America’s Pastime in the sports world has a unique bar set that does not need to be matched or surpassed. Would sports agents benefit from a new professional sports business? Of course. A new sport means more clients. More clients mean more income. More income means a bigger house and a faster car, all for the agent’s pocket. But this does not help the love of the game. A true sports enthusiast does not care about the business aspect of the game – the agenda and love of the game is what is important. The sounds of the game are what matters. These sounds and moments can never be forgotten. There is no reason to begin a new professional sports business when existing sports display the true love of the game. |
