About Me
As a boy, I grew up with a pencil in hand, always drawing and making designs. I wanted to be an architect, and build amazing houses. By college I'd turned to studying literature, with fanciful ideas about being a writer one day. Somewhere along the way, however, I found out that as much as I love doing creative work myself, I really excel at shaping, organizing, and designing around the work of others and helping them to communicate those ideas. I wanted to be an architect after all, but one that designed with user interfaces and information rather than bricks and steel.

Today I work for the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina as the Web Manager for the QSEN Project. My work involves maintaining and expanding the project website and developing ways to further the program's objectives through dynamic web site tools and other collaborative technologies.

In my previous position at UNC, I worked for the Information Technology Services division as part of the Knowledge Management team, which focused on developing systems to help users create and maintain technical documentation for the campus. As a technical editor, I contributed to the design of our applications and championed the user experience. In addition, I worked closely with document contributors to provide guidelines on good writing practices and processes for keeping the knowledge base up to date.

In addition to this work, I do a lot of web application development using PHP and MySQL, as well as installing and maintaining packaged LAMP applications such as Wordpress, Drupal, Mediawiki, and others. I've installed and administered MySQL databases, wiki farms, and other such tools for a variety of use cases. Whenever possible, I focus on developing tools to help users interact and build community together.

About This Site
This is my work site, and features occasional notes about my projects and professional interests. As often as not, I post things here simply so I'll be able to find them later when I need them again.

The title Pride of Szeged is borrowed from the Hungarian paprika brand of the same name, and is a nod to the region where my grandfather was born.
