The UNC Digital Library Services is a pilot project which aims at providing a repository for digital materials and tools to facilitate the use of those materials for instruction and research.

Instructors can organize digital materials that they have searched for or uploaded to the Digital Library in their own folder collections. Folders can be personal (viewable only be the owner), or shared with groups, or classes.

The Digital Library Services provides tools for sorting, managing, editing, and annotating digital objects.

The Digital Library is capable of capturing rich information about the digital objects it indexes. Objects are usually stored at multiple sizes, to enable both easy presentation over limited bandwidth and detailed examination.

Once instructors have organized their digital assets into their folders, the contents of those folders can be displayed in a number of formats, such as an HTML slide show, or a study guide.

Instructors can annotate objects in the Digital Library, adding their own titles, descriptions, etc. When students view online presentations containing these objects, they will see the instructor's annotations rather than the information associated with the object.
