Pantless Woman Is Self-Proclaimed Mine Field
When it comes to feminist and/or women’s issues, it’s pretty damn hard to fight
fire with fire without making a complete ass of yourself. My only request is
that if you’re going to do it, DO IT RIGHT. If you wish to fight rape, I suggest
that you use both the active and passive voice when doing so. Women are raped
every day, but it is not by themselves and no one here is some Rhea Silvia
claiming that Mars raped her. Face it, over 90% of rapes in this country are MEN
RAPING WOMEN. So just go ahead and say it. Say it like you mean it. Like it’s a
fact. Because it is a fucking fact. And it a fact that everyone, including the
rapists themselves, should be angry about. So throw in some anger there too.
Women cannot fight crimes against women alone. Men might be able to seeing as
they are the main ones committing the crimes. But still, we’ll get a lot further
and possibly create solutions collaborating together.
What you should not do, however, is go out into the middle of campus without
pants on and yell about how women should protect themselves from evil rapists
who are luring in dark corners and tell everyone that you are a mine field. What
the hell does that mean?...you are a mine field. Congratulations! You win the
lamest pun ever award! What exactly are you advocating, Ma’am? Because from
where I’m sitting, all the way across the pit from you, you appear to be
indirectly advocating the perpetuation of the containment of women; instead of,
the end of rape. And I’m not sure I agree with you. In fact, I adamantly
disagree with you. I appreciate your “idea,” but your presentation and argument
lack both sensibility and universality. If you want to claim your body, claim
it. Go out into the Pit in your birthday suit and say “This is mine! Don’t touch
it unless I invite you!” Or if the birthday suit is a little too risque for you,
get a skin colored unitard and tastefully stick a few “Hello my name is: MINE!”
stickers of your good stuff to make a statement. But we’ve all seen people
without pants on and it does not count as nudity.
Furthermore, taking from the logic of anti-rape propaganda, don’t just go out and yell by yourself without pants on, ma’am. Safety In Numbers. What am I getting at? There’s power in numbers. If you want to represent the female part of society working to end rape, then have representatives from all of woman’s various shapes, sizes and colors. Oh, and their bodies are not mine fields; they are THEIR BODIES.
