The principal purpose of this page is to make as much of my research available as possible. A large number of abstracts are now online as well as a few reprints and preprints of my papers (which you can reach via the abstracts), which are included both as WebPages and downloadable in Postscript and in html. Not all papers are available in all formats. I will attempt to keep this page as up to date as possible.

In addition to papers, I plan a page of essays. Most importantly, I hope to put an extensive bibliography of cognitive science and behavior analysis here as well. Data from experiments and analyses will also be made available whenever possible. Special pages on In-Vitro Reinforcement and in memorium to Albert P. Weiss (1879-1931) are now online and will be expanded as time permits. Standardly, I am including a Forum containing Queries, Tidbits, Quotes, and Links. I hope to add handy hints as the opportunity arises.

In passing, I may note that the current trend to publish one's own writing on one's own work on the Web does remind me of an old story that I first ran across in Robert Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress: A long while back, there was a small village. Living in the village was a man with developmental disabilities, someone who, in the parlance of the day, was called The Village Idiot.

The people of the village, concerned both with the man's welfare, as well as his pride, gave him the job of polishing the old brass cannon in front of the town hall. For this work, the town council paid him a small sum, sufficient to pay his room and board.

Every week, the man polished the cannon and took his pay. He was frugal. He saved what little he could, until, after many years, he had actually managed to save a substantial sum. One day, at a meeting of the town council, the man surprised everyone by attending and requesting an audience. It was granted. The man put forward his entire life savings and requested that he be allowed to purchase the cannon. Astonished, the head of the town council asked him why on earth the man would want to do such a thing.

"I want to go into business for myself," he replied.
