The Old Well

The Old Well is the symbol of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Originally it was the only water source for Old East and Old West dormitories on campus. In 1897 it was renovated and was given its present decorative form. In 1954 brick walks, plantings, and benches were added.
In the center there is a water fountain. Students believe that drinking water from the Old Well on the first day of classes can bring a good luck.
