The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
The temple was constructed on a vow given by Alexander I
in gratitude for saving fatherland "from the Gauls invasion".
The temple was
consecrated (under the project of architect K.A.Ton)
in April, 10, 1883 during the days of crowning of the
emperor Nikolay I. Side-chapels were consecrated later.
The height of the temple was 103 m.
In December, 5 1931 the temple was blown up and swimming-pool "Moscow" was
constructed on its place.
In 1994 the pool was closed and re-establishing began.
The ceremony of consecration of the completed Cathedral was
held on 7 September 1997 during the celebration of the 850th
anniversary of Moscow.
