"Know Means No!: There's More Than One Way to Say No" The service project that I plan to implement is entitled, "Know Means No!: There is more than one way to say no." The project is a spin off from the service project that I plan to carry out as Miss BSM. "Know Means No!" is a comprehensive service project which entails a week of events dedicated to bringing awareness to the occurrences of sexual violence, particularly rape, against women in our community. Rape is a serious violation of human rights. Often times on our campus, there is a false sense of security. As students, we believe that we are invincible and that nothing will ever happen to us. But it can, and it does. One in six female college students will experience sexual assault. I am working on this project because I believe that both males and females need to know that rape does happen, and it occurs frequently. Also, by being informed in our community, we can help prevent rape from occurring. |
