Dangers of
PC
- Using
PC programs is not entirely safe.
- When you download any
program from the Internet, your computer may be potentially infected
with a virus.
- Although most PC companies do everything in their
power to prevent the consumer from receiving a virus, you are still at
risk.
Stanford's
Linux Supercomputers Compromised
- The link is to an article about a supercomputer
grid at Stanford being compromised. Although a supercomputer grid
is not
exactly like PC computing, it is a similar technology that distributes
tasks among supercomputers rather than individual computers.
- It is a good idea to
only download PC software onto your personal computers.
- You should NOT download a PC program
on your work or school computer unless you
have explicit permission from the proper authority - i.e.: you should
have
your agreement in writing from the network administrator.
