1. Race, the U.S. Census, and the Great Migration

Aggregate historical state census data (1870-1880).  Learn how to grab data from the internet and bring it into Stata.  Introduce basic Stata & do-files

Aggregate several years of state census data together.  Make maps of % black by state in 1880, 1910, and 1940.  Do a descriptive analysis of IPUMS data on blacks in 1910 and 1940.
