From Legacy of the Ancients, by Ivan Romanov (2314) This excerpt is taken from the introduction to Ivan Romanovs influential book of speculative science. The book was an in-depth survey of the Ancients and their architecture, artifacts and culture. Romanov attempted to persuade contemporary scholars to his own belief that an ancient alien mother culture had existed, setting a precedent for an architypical myth pattern he called the Rexque Futuris complex. |

We have come to realize that our culture varies only in small degrees from many others which humanity has encountered in its exploration of the spaces beyond Earth and her solar system. The Taurians, for example maintain a similar religious view as do Christians, that a civilizing leader will at some point return to guide their civilization. The belief is also by no means restricted to a mere two spheres of faith. The Rexque Futuris complex is as widespread in the galaxy as it was among the ancient cultures of earth. Can it be random coincidence that the complex was held by such distant cultures as the Aztecs and the Egyptians? Can it also be sheer chance which has brought the complex in various permutations to planets such as Leptax and Pendrill, separated each by light-years? By the same token it is productive to analyze the three characteristics of such figures as the Rexque Futuris complex puts forward as the central personality of reverence. Most systems of mythology recognize the Rexque Futuris as either a member or leader of a more advanced group. Often it is not clear whether this figure originates from the host society or from a separate visiting society, but the intention to stress advanced culture in all cases is clear. A mythology also cannot conform to the complex without this figure having brought about great change in the host society, be it intellectual, spiritual, or technological. This action provides the vehicle for a host societys reverence of Rexque Futuris. The final presumption for such figures is that each is in some way angered, driven away, or attacked. This action always brings about sudden departure with a requisite promise to return at a later date when the host society is ready for some final, overarching evolution. Rexque Futuris by any name is ultimately the same person. Archaeologists have recently begun to decode the mysteries of the giant stone complexes constructed by the ancient spacefaring peoples of our galaxy. It is increasingly suggested by science that the great pyramids of ancient Earth cultures share more than just shape with their extraterrestrial counterparts. In light of these possibilities, it is not a great leap of logic to suppose that the Rexque Futuris complex is the result of a widespread galactic mother culture which is now extinct, brought to each host culture by visiting envoys. However, if the ancients have indeed left behind such a monolithic legacy for the modern citizen of our galaxy, then several enigmatic questions must be considered carefully: Who were the ancients and why did they bother visiting such primitive cultures? Where did they originate? How did they travel such great distances? Did they themselves maintain a multi-planetary culture? Where are they now? |
