Androids were the culmination of years of research by Müller Cybertechnische Fabrik.  The final development of a specialized high-density cyberneural processor in 2247 was the catalyst which launched industry research into the possibilities of engineered intelligence.  Following a decade of tests and the development of humanoid components by Messerschmidt Aerospace AG, the first series of androids were introduced at Munich, Earth in 2256.  Although the products were an instant success and sold increasingly well, the independence exhibited by most androids was startling. 

After the introduction of the next two models in 2258 and 2261, androids had begun to speak out about their status as property and violent clashes with biological species began to occur.  Attacks on android factories and owners alike became commonplace as radicals attempted to force android emancipation by violent means.  Their freedom was finally granted in 2309, after years of hardship, byt the Engineered Life Amendment.  Today the production of androids is regulated to petitions by android families.
