| Battle
of Sunrise (First and Second):
The First Battle of Sunrise occured on 26 August 2342. It was a costly victory for the Southern Alliance in which an Imperial Navy detachment was caught unprepared. Admiral Peter Frederick was able to cause severe damage to the Southern Alliance force though badly outnumbered. Nevertheless, he lost five of his own frigates and a cruiser. The surviving vessels retreated to Nebulus 68 for repairs. The Second Battle of Sunrise ensued on 28 August 2342, when a larger Imperial force counterattacked the blockading Southern Alliance Navy (SAN) at Dawn. This force, the bulk of the Imperial 1st Fleet, was augmented by elements of the approaching 2nd Fleet. The 2nd Fleet had already destoyed a crucial enemy supply convoy from Shrai'vak when it arrived. As the attack began, the Southern Alliance controlled a fresh battle group and many damaged ships from the previous battle. After two hours of combat the Imperial Navy had decimated the enemy battle fleet, destroying sixteen of nineteen vessels. Numerous skirmishes occured thereafter throughout the Sunrise War, wresting control of the Sunrise system between the two sides for another fourteen months. |
