"Necessary" vs. "Contingent" Statements

"Necessary" Statements:

A statement is "necessary" if and only if it is impossible for that statement to be false.
Examples: "All triangles have three sides.", "It is raining or it is not raining".

“Contingent” Statements:

A statement is “contingent” if and only if it is both possible for that statement to be true, and possible for it to be false.
Examples: "It is not raining.". "The Minnesota Vikings lost on September 7th, 2002."
