  This is a professional position in the search maximization family.  Accountable for supporting the search maximization team in optimizing search results for the company or for advertisers.  Implements changes to site design or key words that enable the improvement of search engine performance and results.  Performs specific research and analyses related to the company's sites or  customers' advertising campaigns.  Evaluates results and provides reporting and feedback on findings.  Has working knowledge of search engine algorithms and architecture.  Tests search engine capabilities as assigned.  Works on routine projects with moderate supervision.  Typically, incumbent has one to three years post-education experience in search engine or result maximization.


Director, Media Technical Production

  Directs and controls the activities of the ongoing technical and specialized production function of online content, especially back- end technology.  Is a technical multimedia production expert.  Establishes technical guidelines for online media production for all of the organization's product lines or channels.  Sets protocols for integrating art, text, audio and video content.  Leads in ensuring company-wide compliance with established technical production standards and policies.  Works with engineering, tools and technical management to identify and solve media production problems and to develop protocols.  Resolves or oversees the resolution of the technical aspects of production problems.  Directs managers and staff in determining and implementing technical solutions for products.  Typically, incumbent has 10 or more years experience of online technical production, with at least five years in people management.  May also have a software engineering background.

Manager, Media Technical Production

  Manages a staff of specialists accountable for ongoing technical and specialized production of online content, especially back-end technology.  Establishes technical guidelines for online media production for all or many of the organization's product lines or channels.  Monitors and enhances protocols for integrating art, text, audio and video content.  Resolves technical aspects of production problems.  Guides technical production specialists in determining and implementing technical solutions for products.  Works with engineering, tools and technical personnel to solve media production problems and to develop protocols.  Has expert knowledge in technical multimedia production.  Typically, incumbent has seven or more years experience, with at least three years in people management.  May also have a software engineering background.


Senior Technical Production Specialist

  This is a senior level technical position accountable for all aspects of technical production on one or more assigned multimedia projects or programs.  Integrates assets into complex and technically challenging web pages utilizing back-end production tools and technologies.  At a senior level, runs the production of the most technically complex sites and participates in initiatives to develop or improve technical production processes.  Utilizes HTML and other web programming and scripting languages to integrate all content.  Works with engineering to define problems and develop solutions to advanced technical issues, functions and applications.  Assists specialists in art, text, audio and video to understand the technological capabilities of products and to help set the technical parameters of their work.  Is expert in HTML, XML, Java and Tcl; Mac, Windows, UNIX and/or NT systems;  and other state-of-the-art technologies for web content production and delivery.  Typically, incumbent has five to eight years experience producing content with state-of-the-art web tools.  Incumbents in this position can move into the entry level of the software engineering job family.

Technical Production Specialist

  Accountable for all aspects of the technical production on assigned multimedia projects or programs.  Prepares multimedia assets such as art, text, audio and video for integration, and integrates assets into products.  Applies available technical production tools to create and update assets on assigned projects or programs.  Assesses back-end technical interface elements required for multimedia assets.  Works with engineering to develop infrastructure, tools and support for product, services and program specific requirements.  Assists specialists in art, text, audio and video to understand the technological capabilities of the products and to help set the technical parameters of their work.  Is proficient with HTML, XML, Java and Tcl; Mac, Windows, UNIX and/or NT systems; and other state-of-the-art technologies for web content production and delivery.  Understands the full scope of production processes.  Typically, incumbent has three to six years experience producing content with state-of-the-art web tools.  Incumbents in this position can move into the entry level of the software engineering job family.

Webmaster

  Responsible for technical support of web page creation and for administering the technical portions of the company's web site.  Is a specialist in HTML and other web content creation tools.  Creates web pages using HTML and other Internet- and intranet- specific coding languages, typically according to specifications.  Updates and maintains web sites by removing old materials to ensure that new pages are created and installed in a timely manner.  Retrieves and processes system logs from web site.  Ensures web server and site technical performance.  Stays abreast of technical changes in software and hardware as they relate to the Internet and intranet.  Researches other web sites to stay abreast of unique and creative approaches to web site design and technology.  Assists in developing and subsequently implements security procedures.  Typically, incumbent has three to six years of experience.

 Manager, Database Development

  Manages a team, or teams, of database developers and specialists responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining and enhancing the online organization's leading edge database systems.  Following policies developed by senior management accountable for database development, manages the development, testing and deployment of databases per specification, on time and within budget.  At a manager level, has operational (rather than strategic) responsibilities to ensure that databases are designed and upgraded with the highest level of technical integrity and stability.  Manages a staff of database developers.  Typically, incumbent has seven or more years experience in designing and developing complex databases, with at least three years in people  management.


Database Architect This is the highest non-managing technical position in the database development function, recognized as an industry leader, with extensive breadth and depth of technical expertise.  Accountable for leading the design, development and implementation of leading edge database systems that support the organization's strategic initiatives.  Typically manages the schedules of assigned projects and mentors, rather than manages, senior developers.  Designs and develops highly complex and secure databases (e.g., transaction, enrollment, etc.) for web / HTML-based applications.  Designs back-end database architecture and data warehousing protocols.  Develops software to interface with databases that generate desired information on current systems, while anticipating migration to next generation systems.  Is expert in C, C++; SQL, DSS, database access middleware, hybrid models of DBMS; related transaction processing systems; Informix, Sybase and Oracle database tools; and has in-depth knowledge of UNIX and/or NT systems.  Typically, incumbent has 12 or more years experience in state-of-the-art database systems development.

Senior Database Developer This is a senior level position accountable for developing database technologies and databases that help meet the objectives of new or modified products and services being developed by the online organization.  Designs, develops and manages the execution  of complex and secure databases for web / HTML-based applications.  Designs back-end database architecture and data warehousing protocols.  Develops software to interface with databases that generate desired information on current systems, while anticipating migration to next generation systems.  Is a fully contributing team member, focusing on a combination of design and implementation.  Works with a high degree of independence on projects with little or no precedence and resolves complex problems.  Trains and guides other database developers.  Is proficient in C, C++; and has in-depth knowledge (and understands interrelationships) of SQL, DSS, database access middleware; related transaction processing systems; Informix, Sybase and Oracle database tools; and UNIX and/or NT systems.  Typically, incumbent has five to eight years experience in state-of-the-art database systems development.

Senior Database Administrator

  This is a senior level position accountable for the design, layout, implementation and maintenance of one or more complex databases.  Ensures sound database definitions, structures and documentation.  Develops and implements procedures for access methods, access time and device allocation.  Establishes and maintains security and protection controls.  Is a fully contributing team member, focusing on a combination of database design and administration.  Works with a high degree of independence on databases with little or no precedent and resolves complex problems.  Has in-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art database technologies and platforms and is expert in specific database platforms important to the organization.  Typically, incumbent has five to eight years experience in database administration in Internet database environments.

Email Administrator Accountable for coordinating email sent to and from customers to enhance the organization's relationship with its customers.  This position differs from position 1885 - Customer Support Representative in that its focus is on member relations rather than on member support.  Serves as a primary resource for answering incoming email from users.  Responsible for distributing emails and newsletters to customers per release schedules.  Coordinates customization of regular emails; combines "stock" replies with  personal touches.  Responds to customer inquiries resulting from email discussions.  Forwards emails and summaries of findings to relevant departments to ensure they receive direct customer feedback.  Typically, incumbent has three or more years experience in direct marketing.
