Thomas Oatley
Associate Professor of Political Science

Research: I study the intersection
of international and comparative political economy. My work examines
how the interaction between
economic interests and political institutions shapes governments’
foreign economic
policy choices. Most of my research has focused on the politics of
exchange rates, macroeconomic policy, and financial institutions in the
advanced industrialized and developing worlds.
Teaching: I teach a
variety of courses on
international politics and political economy. At the undergraduate
level I teach Introduction
to
International Politics, International Political Economy, and Domestic
Political
Economy.
My graduate seminars
include International Political Economy, International Institutions,
and The
Politics
of Macroeconomic Policy in Advanced Industrialized Countries. I have
also
written and edited two textbooks on the politics of the global economy.
