PARTICIPATION AND FRAMING

In our movement, we will take two primary courses of action in order to frame our movement's message so that it will fit the personal frames of our target individuals.

    FRAME BRIDGING

The first process will be frame bridging. One of the most basic beliefs of the Fundamentalist Christian Movement is the idea that women should not defy their natural roles as housewives who are responsible for taking care of their children and husbands. We base this claim on the teachings of the Bible (by scanning down this page to one of our projected flyers, one can see the scriptural evidence for female submission.) Many people in the United States believe in the ideals of moral conservatism, but they may not necessarily connect these beliefs to Christianity. This is one of our primary goals - to show people that a moral belief system based on a return to the traditional family and appropriate gender roles can have many connections to the Fundamentalist Christian Movement. Even non-believers will agree with most of the basic focal points of our movement. Parents are not doing the job to teach children the basic moral tenants that will enable our society to progress appropriately into the future because women are not staying in the home. Nonbelievers will also agree that even when parents are successful at raising their kids in a Christian manner they are then sent off to public schools and exposed to a very non Christian environment. These are ideas that the vast majority of Americans can agree on, so we plan to use this common bond to show people how logical and familiar the ideas of Fundamentalist Christianity are.
We will achieve the goal of bridging through organizational outreach and mass diffusion of information. The media will play a large role in this process. Groups that we plan to work with, such as the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and the Christian Coalition, have received significant newspaper and television coverage in the past few years, which can only help us to get the Fundamentalist message out to the public. We also plan to work with interpersonal and group networks, such as campus organizations. Mass mailings can be a very effective method for us to bridge the gap between believers and nonbelievers. With groups such as the Southern Baptist Conference, the Christian Coalition, and campus organizations, we already have a solid database of addresses and networks for getting our message out to as many people as possible.

    FRAME AMPLIFICATION

Another way in which we will align our frame with individual frames is through the process of frame amplification. The only way that people will participate in our movement is for us to show them that the values of Fundamentalist Christianity can be logically interpreted to accomodate any nonbeliever's own individual frame of mind. Almost all Americans have a system of values, and we need to make the connection between these values and our movement's values less ambiguous. Fundamentalist Christianity is not just about female submission. It is also about the traditional family, morality, purity, and godliness. In our country, there is a consensus in most conservative circles - Christian or otherwise - that there has been a breakdown of the traditional family. We simply want to return to the values of the Bible.  We will not be uprooting the core of society, because society believes in much of our movement's core philosophy. In addition to value amplification, we must also focus on belief amplification. The beliefs of our target population will have a direct effect on the values of society. All people follow certain types of beliefs, and we simply plan to clarify to these people that what they believe has a direct connection to the Fundamentalist Christian Movement.

        5 MAJOR OBJECTIVES:

Here are our five major objectives: 1) The seriousness of the problem at hand: the forces of Satan have the potential to infiltrate every aspect of our lives. 2) Who or what is to blame: premarital sex, drugs, alcohol, lack of parenting. 3) Commonly held stereotypes of our antagonists: they are the unsaved soldiers of Satan, as well as anyone who has never read the Bible. 4) How will we affect change: using personal testimonies, as well as the simple power of numbers (Christianity has grown progressively over the past 2000 years). 5) Why is there a necessity to stand up for this cause: we are dealing with perhaps the greatest battle of all time, a war between the armies of God and Satan. Once our target population can understand these five basic points, they will have a greater chance of identifying with the Fundamentalist Christian Movement.

            FREE RIDER PROBLEM

As with any mass movement, we have a free rider problem because it is never possible to mobilize all those who believe in or personally ascribe to the ideology of your movement.  This problem would be especially obvious when we are attempting to organize a protest or boycott because it is much easier to say your committed to the Fundamentalist Movement than to actually step forward and take action on behalf of the cause.  Although it is possible to free ride and reap the benefits of our movement during life, it is not in an indiviudal's best interest because in the end it is their own salvation on the line.  Hopefully, through the conversion and commitment process, especially the conscience raising aspect, individuals will come to realize the importance of active support of the Fundamentalist movement through participation in such events as boycotts and protests.  For the protest that we are planning, it is especially important that we have the participation of all those parents who support  what we are trying to change within the public school system.  It will not help our cause if parents are unwilling to remove their children from school, even if they do not agree with the phonics readers that expose their children to non-Fundamentalist values, simply because they are afraid.

We are in the preliminary stages of creating fliers and literature for mass mailings to groups such as the SBC, the Christian Coalition, Pro-Life groups, Republican Party representatives, and any other organization that may help our cause. Here are a few samples:

DO YOU BELIEVE IN FREEDOM OF RELIGION?
"Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which  concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him."
                                                Acts 28:31

DOES SATAN LIVE IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS?
"Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake."
                                                Titus 1:11

            WHO IS TEACHING YOUR CHILDREN?
"Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children."
                                            Deuteronomy 4: 10
