This web site for the Center of Documentary Studies at Duke University provides a calendar of upcoming events and galleries, a gallery of the pictures from some of the documentaries on file, information on grants and scholarships in documentary studies, and a comprehensive gallery of exhibits open right now and coming up. This is a good site for ideas and to understand what a good, quality documentary might be.

DoubleTake Books

The Double Take Books web site has a very good review of newly released documentary books. There are pictures and extended descriptions available for each book, which makes this another good site for students to look at to understand what constitutes a good documentary.

DoubleTake's Film Festival

This site is DoubleTake's Film Festival in coordination with Duke that is held annually. Besides offering lists of new and previous films entered in the contest, the site offers interesting pages on Southern writing on film, images of war and peace, and insight into coming of age stories.

American Film Institute

Although this site for the American Film Institute is not dedicated solely to documentaries, there is very good information on films and training to edit and produce on the computer.

Filmmaking on the Web

This site is very interesting because it takes the viewer through a tour of internet film making, which is a relatively new field. Very important for the student who wants to place the documentary on the web.

This site contains many links in various arenas of filmmaking, such as production, equipment, schools, film bureaus, grants, and reccommended reading. It is dedicated to non fiction films only and documentary filmmakers.

The British Film Institute web site offers a variety of documentary film, literature, and news in its extensive library. In addition to the documentaries themselves, the site provides education, advice, and information for filmmakers.

The Grierson Trust Awards web page offers information about "The Annual Grierson Award for the Best British Documentary." In addition, it includes resources, links to other documentary sites, contact and samples; not to mention a complete biography of John Grierson himself.
