An integral component in a training workshop, the video consists of segments that are viewed and discussed by program participants. The video provides background information about Part H of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and the IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan) process. Eleven identified landmarks in the IFSP process serve to organize content. Family-centered practice is modeled through five vignettes containing examples of both appropriate and inappropriate practice with a focus on communication skills; inappropriate practice is visually differentiated from appropriate practice with black and white segments. Most interactions take place in the home and models illustrate many excellent home visiting skills including ways to establish family contact, respond to family needs, and engage families in the planning process. The video is accompanied by a facilitator's guide containing supplementary information, along with frequently asked questions and sample answers. The guide also contains 25 handout masters that reinforce content and allow for practice of skills.
