Welcome to the online resource for Recreational Gardeners. My objective in creating this site was to create an index of basic resources for the new gardener. As a relatively recent initiate to the world of gardening I have found that the internet offers a rich variety of reference sites. The most prominent of these are the catchall "gardening portals" many of which require registration and then offer a range of services from access to design ideas, tips and plant lists to discussion forums and personalized home pages. The portal sites are generally sponsored by a commercial organization of some sort (i.e. a television show or magazine) and include a commercial component like product plugs or a marketplace area. Nonetheless, there is a great deal of helpful information to be found there so I have included several of these sites on my "General Information" page. Also included are links to various privately maintained sites and state or federally sponsored sites that offer good basic information. This site is organized into five basic categories: General Information, Organics, Fruits & Vegetables, Flowers, and Shopping and is navigated via the buttons located at the top of each page. Basic herb gardening information is included on the "Fruits & Vegetables" page and the links on the "Flowers" page are further categorized as annual or perennial. I have included a page of commercial shopping links not necessarily because I endorse the vendor sites listed but because for the most part they offer rare or hard to find plants. It is my personal philosophy to patronize local shops and nurseries whenever possible because I want to insure that such businesses continue to survive. I hope that you enjoy the site and find useful information here. Please let me know if you find any broken links or if have suggestions for making the site better. -Tammy |
