I think this is the very elaborate and lovely western gate.

All good things need a moat [ index| x010000 , 150912 ]

City: Kyoto
Location: Nijo

The neat thing about this moat is that even today its huge and basically green with life. Its continually maintained and stocked with koi and large goldfish. I think i have a picture of them lying around somewhere...

Skyline [ index| x010000 , 150912 ]

City: Kyoto
Location: Nijo

This photo was taken from what i suppose was a former lookout station, paved over for tourists. Since I was not allowed to take photographs on the inside of the compound buildings i thought I would at least grab the skyline. In fact this photo is still missing several of the buildings at the front of the compound.

Big Dog [ index| x010000 , 150912 ]

The Chrysanthemum was the symbol of the imperial family and adorns the end of all the roof tiles in the imperial compound.

Protected Tapestry [ index| x010001 , 150912 ]

One of the few tapestries one is able to photograph in japan. This was outside of the emporers throne room.
