Welcome to Grant Dickie and Doug Whitfield's Unix Text Adventure!
TIP ON GETTING STARTED:
One of the most important things to do in Grant's and my text adventure is to always hit the "ls" button first. This shows you the objects you can do something with on that screen. Remember, each screen is a directory (folder) in Unix.
You are grep, Information Seeker within the Nix. A top user has hired you to find several docs that they have lost. For this mission, you will need your handy Unix commands and wits to survive. Use Unix-based commands to talk to other users and to find the docs by confronting the bandits who stole them. You must retrieved these documents one by one in order to complete the top user's goals. You get the initial call to begin your search in your office, and from there must use your sleuthing skills and "CD" from place to place. Whenever a bandit is encountered, you must use the "MV" or move command in Unix, to displace the bandit to another file location in order to collect the stolen document. The documents will provide you clues as to where to go next. At any time during a stage, a you may click on "PWD" to check which directory (folder) in which you are located.
What is Unix?
"An operating system co-created by AT&T researchers Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson. Unix is well known for its relative hardware independence and portable application interfaces. Lots of big companies are using Unix servers for its reliability and scalability. Some of the popular Unix flavours are: Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, etc." - www.orafaq.com/glossary/faqglosu.htm
