Things I Find Humorous

This fact...

I went from driving this yellow car to this black car. I'm excited about the new Acura but also sad about the passing of the old Volvo.

Halloween on Franklin St.

A time when crazy college kids can dress up as whatever they please (including, I've seen, a 25-foot penis) and grab as much ass as they want all in the name of Halloween fun. I was Che Guevara this year, and there was a fellow there as Castro. It was certainly a historic Kodak moment.

This Picture

This is a picture of me at King's Dominion Amusement Park in Virginia taken in March '98. Probably the only folks on the planet who think this picture is funny are me and my boy Mark Sink (see "People in My Life" to find out more about Mark). I guess I'll have to explain so everyone will understand why I think this is funny. Mark and I had been talking about phallic symbols in literature as we walked around a corner and saw the tall green tower in the back. Without missing a beat Mark said "there's one right there," and I turned and did the Beavis "BOING!" as he snapped the picture. When we got the picture back we both thought it was the most hilarious thing.

Gee Dub

President George W. Bush. 'Nuff said! (More about the campaign in "My Thoughts") I take solace in knowing that now that he's been made President, at least SNL will be HILARIOUS the next four years

Saturday Night Live

(This rant was written many years ago. SNL is still the best only now there's different funny characters than the ones mentioned here)
This has got to be the funniest show on TV! Without a doubt! Even though some years are funnier than others, and some shows during individual seasons are funnier than other shows that same season, this is the show you need to watch for consistent, enjoyable, clever, television. The funniest two shows this past season were the ones hosted by Jamie Fox and Christopher Walken. Jamie Fox's impersonation of Puff Daddy ("Puffy, you can't sample your feelings" "I'm just trying to give it up for Biggie!") was dead on, and Christopher Walken gave us the line "Guess what!...I've got a fever, and the only prescription, is more cowbell!"
The present cast saved the show. As recently as '95, the show really sucked and genuinely funny moments occurred maybe once a month. It was really bad. But then this new cast, led by my boy Will Ferrel, came in and rescued the show from cancellation. Now genuinely funny moments occur every sketch, and I've started to ache at the side again when I watch the show. Will Ferrel is the funniest cast member on the show, just seeing him makes me laugh. Maybe that's because I'm anticipating the funny stuff that he's going to do. Anyway, I enjoy him more than anyone else. It's not even his recurring characters that I like the most. I like it when he plays the regular guy who, when Will plays him, usually ends up yelling about something. The way this man yells is hilarious! In fact, the very first skit he was in on SNL had him playing a dad BBQing in the backyard yelling at his kids to "GET OFF THE DAMN SHED!" There wasn't anything especially clever about the writing, but his delivery was classic. Will Ferrel's appearance on Conan O'Brian the day before St. Patrick's Day had to be one of the funniest things I'd ever seen in my life. If you didn't see it, you won't understand why I enjoyed it so much, there's no way I can explain it adequately. Just know that Will Ferrel told Conan that he wanted to put the "sex back in St. Patrick's Day". He's a funny man! No doubt!
Although Will Ferrel is my favorite, I enjoy everyone on the cast! Every person on the cast has at one time or another shed a tear laughing. Cheri Oteri is the funniest woman on the planet, and her "Simma down nah!" character won't ever get old. I never really liked the Mary Katherine Galagher character, and I think they used her too much. That character was never really funny, and I'm glad they finally got rid of her. However, Molly Shannon is hilarious and I really enjoy her new character Sally O'Malley, the "I'M 50!" character. Tim Meadows' "The Ladies Man" and Chris Kattan's "Mango" are both super funny (although starting to get a little old), and both men play all their other characters perfectly. Colin Quinn is funnier on Weekend Update than anyone since Dennis Miller, and Darrel Hammond's impression of President Clinton makes me double over every time. Tracy Morgan does "Dominican Lou" and "Bishop Don Mack Donald's Pimp Chat" that are both hilarious. Certainly, the cast is very special.
Folks tell me that the funniest era of SNL was in the 70s when it first started. I disagree. I've never thought any of those were particularly funny. Maybe it's because the show is so full of cultural references that I wouldn't understand the ones from the seventies, but I definitely enjoy the present shows much more. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Saturday Night Live, and I'm glad that they are able to make me laugh week after week! Click the pic of Will Ferrel to check out the SNL website.

This is a picture of my friend Jenny "Shorty" Crown smacking my ass at Carolina last year. I don't know why she was doing it, maybe I'm just irresistible. Anyway, Kate was there and she happened to have her camera ready. I think she was fortunate to catch this exact moment. It's certainly a funny pic!
