      IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Edward Wingate being in perfect health mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, I think proper to settle my worldly affairs as followeth and first of all I recommend my soul to Almighty God that gave it and body to be buried according to the discretion of my Executors hereafter named.
        Imprimis:  I give unto my dear wife two negroes Fillis and Peter and three cows, one steer, one half dozen  plates, two dishes, one feather bed and furniture and two iron pots and the plantation I now live upon but [except] in case of her marrying again or cohabiting with any man or death.
     Unto my son John Wingate I give one shilling sterling out of my estate and no more neither real nor personal.
      I give unto my dutiful son Edward Wingate one negro called Fertim. And unto my daughter Sarah Wingate but is now called Sarah Bell, wife of James Bell, I give to her and her heirs one negro woman called Jada, one feather bed furniture, half a dozen plates and two dishes. And unto my daughter Mary Symmonds, wife of John Symmonds I give one negro woman called Sarah but if my daughter Mary Symmonds should die without issue, the said Negro Sarah is to be delivered unto my daughter Sarah Bell as foresaid. And unto my daughter Ann Hickman, wife of John Hickman I give one negro woman called Pat, one feather bed and furniture, two dishes, half a dozen plates and one iron pot, which goods and negro wench and two cows are to my daughter Ann and her heirs. And unto my grandson Edward Wingate, son of Edward Wingate, Jr. I give my plantation that I now live upon is South Carolina  after my wife aforesaid. And unto my grandson John Hickman I give half a tract of land lying at Lockwood Folly meaning that part that my settlement was on and unto my grandson Samuel Bell the other half tract of land which is at Lockwood Folly.  I desire my Executors which I shall name to see that all my lawful debts be discharged before any of ye above negroes or goods be delivered and as for my two negroes I gave unto my wife as aforementioned then Fillis is to be given to my son Edward Wingate and the negro Peter unto my daughter Sarah Bell as aforesaid, and for the two pots, plates and two dishes I gave my wife, when she dies or otherways as aforesaid, then ye said things is to be given to Ann Hickman and three cows and the feather bed as aforesaid that I gave unto my wife is to be given to my son Edward Wingate. And unto Edward Hickman one young mare out of my stock and unto my grandson James Bell I give a mare. And as for my Executors I appoint my son Edward Wingate and Abraham Hays to be my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament revoking and disannulling and making void all wills and declaring this only to be my last will and testament as I have hereunto set my hand and seal the second day of September in the year of Our Lord one thousand  seven hundred and fifty eight.
