Lisa Zou, from
Changsha, Hunan Province, is a Pipa, Guzheng and Guqin performing
artist. Born in a family of Chinese music tradition, Lisa started
Pipa and Guzhen training from 5 years old, studying pipa with
well-known pipa player, Jinghua Li, from China Music Academy (
Had graduated from
Hunan Changsha Music College in 1982, she worked at Hunan Huaguxi
Theatrical Group (花鼓戏剧院)
as leading pipa player.
From 1985 to 1987, she
went to China Conservatory of Music (
studying Pipa with Dehai Liu (刘德海),
the most famous Pipa master in China.
From 1987 to 1988,
Lisa joined Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (香港中乐团),
studying Pipa with Jinghua Li.
From 1993 to 1996,
Lisa went to China National Orchestra (中央乐团),
studied Guzheng with Wang Di (王迪)
and Li Wanfen (李婉芬),
very famous Guzheng artists in China.
Starting from late
80s, Lisa studied Guqin with daughter of Shaochun Liu (刘少椿),
the well-known Guqing artist for GuaLing Group (广陵派).
Then Lisa studied Guqing with other groups, such as Sichuan Group (蜀派)
and participated in many Guqin conference and festival to promote
the ancient Chinese music and arts.
In over twenty years of
her performance and music education for young artists, she has won
many musical and music education awards and trained thousands of
players of Chinese music instrument, both young and adult. She has
visited over thirty countries for performances, training and culture
exchanges, including US.
