Message from the Provost to students following Hurricane Florence

We understand that each of you may be facing different challenges, including uncertainty about when you will be able to return safely to campus.

Dear Students:

Now that classes have resumed, I write to thank you for your patience and courage during Hurricane Florence. We were incredibly fortunate that our campus, our town and the surrounding area were spared the worst of the storm. We have power, food, housing and other resources to help you, and we are committed to your safety and your success.

We know that this last week has been difficult for many of you, and for your families and the communities you call home. We understand that each of you may be facing different challenges, including uncertainty about when you will be able to return safely to campus.

For that reason, if you are still experiencing the effects of Hurricane Florence, and especially if you have not yet been able to return to campus, I am asking you to take a quick survey to let us know whether you need to communicate with someone about your specific circumstances. We are establishing specialized teams to provide support and guidance to affected students, no matter what your situation may be.

Please complete this brief survey to let us know how we can help you:  Student Support Survey.  If your immediate situation prevents you from completing the survey, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students at florence@unc.edu or 919-966-4042.

We are committed to you and your success and to supporting you during these difficult times.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Blouin
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
