The Well is the new source of news, information for faculty and staff

Carolina employees have a new online destination for the latest University news: The Well.

Designed to be the primary source of news and information about Carolina, the site is a place where employees can read the day’s top stories, learn more about projects in schools, units and departments, and see how Carolina’s employees work to uphold the University mission of research, teaching and service. News grouped by category, from the arts and humanities to research make it easy to sort by topics of interest. All of the content is targeted specifically to University employees.

“The Well is our shift to a modern digital format,” said Joel Curran, vice chancellor for communications. “University Communications wanted to provide one place where faculty and staff can find timely updates related to their jobs, along with top news and inspiring stories that are traditionally featured in the Gazette.”

In addition to the latest news, two regular features — Focus Carolina and Carolina People — that readers know from the University Gazette are now on The Well. A new feature, In the Know, provides employees with five important pieces of information for the day — such as traffic detours, construction updates, tips from ITS, HR and more.

“Our campus community has always expected and enjoyed hearing about newsmakers among the faculty and staff on our campus — research, accomplishments, milestones and more — as well as insights into University priorities and plans. Today, we live and work in an even more complex environment and The Well will try to help ensure our employees feel connected with their community in a real-time way,” Curran said.

The Well will expand its reach with an email news digest in the coming months.

Employees can follow @TheWellUNC on Twitter for important updates and links to breaking news.
