Becci Menghini has been named vice chancellor for Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance.

Becci Menghini

Dear Carolina Community:

We are pleased to announce that Becci Menghini has been named vice chancellor for Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance, effective Jan. 2. Becci has served as the interim vice chancellor for Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement since May 2019.

The Division of Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement will be renamed Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance. In her new role, Becci will continue to direct the Offices of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance. She will also oversee the divisional business office and communications team and the Human Resources information management team. The University Office for Diversity and Inclusion, which was previously part of Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement, will now report directly to the provost. We will soon launch a national search for a vice provost for equity and inclusion/chief diversity officer.

Becci came to Carolina in 2015 as senior associate vice chancellor for Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement, and has proven to be a strategic partner and adviser to the University’s leadership team; the Board of Trustees; and countless students, faculty and staff. She has helped streamline business processes in human resources to accelerate hiring times, improve operational efficiency and recruit and hire top talent. She has also helped reimagine the University’s organizational structure to meet the needs of our community and initiated several projects aimed at better service delivery, more professional development opportunities for faculty and staff and enhanced training for managers and supervisors.

Additionally, Becci has grown the capacity and services provided by the Equal Opportunity and Compliance office and fostered a sense of collaboration with units across campus to more effectively address matters of discrimination and harassment. Since she arrived in 2015, the Equal Opportunity and Compliance team has grown to include five investigators, three report and response coordinators, and personnel to assist with disability and religious accommodations, hearings, training, and outreach. She is steadfast in her commitment to improve the campus climate, particularly as it relates to sexual assault and gender-based harassment, and is working with others to enhance the University’s prevention programs. She is well versed in the state and national policies and regulations that guide both employment and equal opportunity practices and is committed to ensuring that Carolina is a place where all can thrive. An adept leader, Becci is an attentive listener and capable problem solver who understands the depth and breadth of our community and its needs.

Becci brings a wealth of experience to this position. Before coming to Carolina, Becci was the chief of staff to three chancellors at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a role she held for nearly seven years. She also has nearly two decades of higher education alumni and development experience. Becci holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Dickinson College, a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Doctorate in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania.

We are confident that Becci is perfectly positioned for this role, and we look forward to her continued leadership at Carolina. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment.

Sincerely,

Kevin M. Guskiewicz
