Message from Vice Provost for Global Affairs Stephenson on spring study abroad programs

The University has expanded its cancellation of spring study abroad programs to include many European countries.

Students, faculty and staff,

UNC-Chapel Hill is expanding its cancellation of spring 2020 study abroad programs to European countries that have been designated as Level 3 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These countries include Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City.

The University is communicating with affected students about their return to the United States and their academic continuation options.

In accordance with prior messages from the University, all University-affiliated travel outside the state is prohibited until further notice. Additional guidance on this and other related matters is available on the UNC-Chapel Hill COVID-19 resource website.

University officials continue to monitor the situation and will provide additional updates if recommendations change or as other circumstances warrant it.
