Message from Vice Provost for Global Affairs Stephenson on programs in the United Kingdom and Ireland

The University has canceled all spring semester academics programs in the United Kingdom and Ireland, including study abroad.

Big Ben in the evening.

Dear students,

UNC-Chapel Hill is canceling all spring semester 2020 academic programs — including study abroad — in the United Kingdom and Ireland, which were designated with a Level 3 Travel Notice by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on March 15 due to the widespread ongoing transmission of COVID-19, or coronavirus.

The University is communicating with affected students about their return to the United States and their academic continuation options.

In accordance with prior guidance, all University-affiliated travel outside the state of North Carolina is prohibited until further notice. Additional guidance on this and other related matters is available on the UNC-Chapel Hill COVID-19 resource website.

University officials continue to monitor the situation and will provide additional updates if recommendations change or as other circumstances warrant it.

Sincerely,

Barbara Stephenson
Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Chief Global Officer
U.S. Ambassador (retired)
