Carolina ranks 52nd in 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Carolina climbed four spots on the rankings of the world’s top 1,600 research universities.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ranks 52nd among the world’s top 1,600 research universities, according to the London-based Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The 2022 ranking, released Sept. 1, is based on 13 separate performance indicators designed to capture a full range of university activities. Indicators cover teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

Among U.S. universities, UNC-Chapel Hill placed 22nd overall and 9th among public universities. Last year, the University ranked 56th in the world and 28th in the United States.

The University of Oxford is ranked first in the world. The California Institute of Technology and Harvard University are tied for second, followed by Stanford University.
