A message from the chancellor: Happy FDOC

New classes, new friendships, new projects and goals, discovering something new to love here at Carolina – all of this is possible in the semester ahead.

The Bell Tower at Sunset.

Dear Carolina Community,

Happy new year, welcome back and happy first day of classes! I hope the winter break gave you the opportunity to rest and spend time with loved ones, and that you are excited and ready for the semester ahead.

One of my favorite aspects of the academic calendar is the opportunity it provides for new beginnings. New classes, new friendships, new projects and goals, discovering something new to love here at Carolina – all of this is possible in the semester ahead. I’ve been at Carolina for more than 27 years, and every semester still brings something surprising and energizing. I hope that’s true for you as well.

This semester, I am excited about welcoming hundreds of transfer and global launch students to experience the beauty of our campus and the uniquely Carolina programs that set us apart and will set them on a successful career path. Our new IDEAS in Action undergraduate curriculum and our new School of Data Science and Society are providing exciting new opportunities for our students and faculty. We also are moving forward on our strategic plan, Carolina Next: Innovations for Public Good, which will enhance our community’s work across our state and around the world. And finally, we will announce later this semester our Next Grand Challenge initiatives, leveraging the success of our recently completed $5B capital campaign, to ensure we have the resources and state of the art facilities to support our world class faculty and students.

As we settle into our routines, I encourage you to take care of yourself and support each other. I am grateful for each one of you and the role you play in our mission of teaching, research and service. I look forward to seeing you on campus and to hearing your stories of the semester ahead.

Sincerely,

Kevin M. GuskiewiczChancellor
