Enjoy the perks of being a Tar Heel

Being a Tar Heel means having a variety of perks that come with a One Card or Carolina email address.

As a student, staff or faculty member, you have access to these benefits that come with being part of the Carolina community.

University Libraries

Students, staff and faculty can check out books through University Libraries with their One Card, but they’re not the only things accessible through Carolina’s libraries.

The libraries offer access to hundreds of thousands of films and educational videos, thanks to services like Swank, Projectr and Films on Demand.

Have a physical media collection but no devices to play them on? The Music Library (located on the third floor of Davis Library) allows visitors to use CD players, headphones and record players.

Students, staff and faculty also have access to the Undergraduate Library’s Makerspace. Here, Tar Heels are empowered to explore emerging technologies — such as 3D printing and imaging — for all types of creative projects.

The libraries also offer free digital subscriptions to news outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post.

Campus events

Carolina athletics are a staple of the campus community. With a One Card, certain sporting events on campus are either free or discounted.

Students get free access to all athletic events — excluding football and men’s basketball — when they present their digital or physical One Card at the gate.

Faculty and staff can receive four free regular-season tickets to any Carolina home sporting event, except for football and men’s basketball games. To receive these benefits, the digital or physical One Card must be presented at the gate.

For faculty and staff members who love the arts, Carolina Performing Arts offers a 25% discount on all tickets. Students also get tickets for $11.

PlayMakers Repertory Company also offers $10 tickets to students, as well as a 15% discount for faculty and staff.

Fitness perks

While students have full access to the campus recreational facilities, many fitness perks also extend to Carolina’s faculty and staff.

Permanent employees can access facilities like Fetzer Hall, Woollen Gym, Rams Head Recreation Center, Bowman Gray Indoor Pool and Kessing Outdoor Pool for only $20 per month. Temporary employees also have access to membership options, and the facilities offer options for spouses or domestic partners as well.

Feel like unwinding with a rock climb? Rams Head Recreation Center invites all employees to climb for free on Fridays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. All that’s needed is a One Card upon arrival — no membership required.

GoPass

Faculty, staff and students are eligible for a free GoPass with their UNC email address.
GoPass transit offers service routes through Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and other parts of the Triangle.

Store, restaurant and entertainment discounts

Off campus, a variety of retailers offer discounts for Carolina students.

Get 10% off items at Goodwill on certain days of the week. Enjoy a discounted meal from Moe’s Southwest Grill. On Thursdays, students can enjoy a discounted movie at AMC Theaters. And clothing stores like J. Crew offer a 15% discount to Carolina students at certain locations.
