UNC-Chapel Hill is one of America’s best places to work, according to a new ranking released Tuesday.

Carolina made Forbes’ 2026 best large employers list, which highlights employers that are leaders in navigating today’s workforce landscape while maintaining employee loyalty and engagement.

It’s the second consecutive year the University made the rankings. Additionally, UNC-Chapel Hill is the top-ranked public university in North Carolina on the list and ranks No. 20 among employers in the education industry.

The 11th annual rankings, conducted in partnership with the market research firm Statista, are based primarily on survey responses from more than 217,000 employees working at companies within the U.S. that employ more than 1,000 people. Companies with more than 5,000 employees were considered large employers.

Survey respondents were asked if they would recommend their employer to others and to rate it based on a range of criteria, including salary, work environment, benefits and opportunities to advance.

In 2025, Forbes named Carolina a “new Ivy” for the second straight year. The University ranked as the best value public institution for the 21st straight year in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings.
