Jeanette Gowen Cook named 2025 AAAS fellow
The American Association for the Advancement of Science selected the UNC School of Medicine professor for the prestigious honor.

Jeanette Gowen Cook, professor in the UNC School of Medicine and member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named a 2025 fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The selection to one of the largest multidisciplinary scientific societies and publisher of the Science family of academic journals is one of the most distinguished honors in the scientific community.
Fellows have been selected since 1874 to recognize extraordinary achievements across disciplines. The 2025 class includes 449 scientists, engineers and innovators.
Cook, the chair of the biochemistry and biophysics department and a professor in the pharmacology department, was honored in the biological sciences field. Her lab studies the regulation of the mammalian cell cycle, with a particular focus on the cell cycle phase transitions related to DNA replication and to cell cycle exit.
