UNC-Chapel Hill names Carolina North Stakeholder Advisory Committee
Representatives from the University, community, alumni and students will share feedback to shape ongoing plans for the historic campus expansion.

At a moment when North Carolina’s growth is outpacing traditional pathways to opportunity, UNC-Chapel Hill is establishing the Carolina North Stakeholder Advisory Committee to help guide how the University’s 230-acre campus expansion is shaped to meet that demand. The committee is charged with advising on a generational expansion that positions Carolina to serve the state and its people with greater scale and impact.
Carolina North represents a deliberate shift to a more integrated, comprehensive model, one that connects education, research and real-world application in service of North Carolina’s evolving workforce and economy. The advisory committee will provide feedback on that vision, how the University aligns access, innovation and community integration in ways that reflect both its public mission and the realities of a rapidly growing region.
“Carolina North is a generational opportunity to build on our mission, our values and our responsibility to serve the state of North Carolina,” said Chancellor Lee H. Roberts. “I am grateful to the members of this committee for lending their time, expertise and perspective as we work together to ensure this project serves Carolina and the broader community well.”
“The development of Carolina North is one of the most exciting and consequential opportunities for our community and our University in the last hundred years,” said Aaron Nelson, president and CEO of The Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro, who is serving as a committee co-chair. “With University leadership and community input, this important campus expansion will have substantial, lasting and positive impact on the people and economy of our region and the state.”
Members were identified through a combination of appointment, recommendation and outreach. Many who expressed interest in serving — particularly neighboring residents — were invited to join the advisory committee. UNC-Chapel Hill student representatives were recommended by the Undergraduate Student Government, the Graduate and Professional Student Government and the Residence Hall Association. Several community stakeholders were recommended by the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
