Tar Heel football players get passports for Ireland

Some team members took advantage of the Phillips Passport Initiative, a program that funds first passports for undergraduates.

Tar Heel football players took advantage of a campus program to acquire passports ahead of the team’s season opener in Dublin.

Carolina’s Phillips Passport Initiative, a program of the Phillips Ambassadors, provides funding for undergraduate students to obtain their first U.S. passport. The program, now entering its fifth year, doesn’t require a commitment to studying abroad, though many students who take advantage later do.

The Tar Heel football team is playing Texas Christian University Aug. 29 in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Ireland.

Partnering with the Phillips Passport Initiative will help get the Tar Heels there safely — and also provide the chance for players to pursue other travel later.
